Bourgueil Graviers from the house Pithon-Paillé, located in the Loire Valley in western France, is a fruity and juicy red wine made from 100 % Cabernet Franc grapes. This ruby coloured wine has an enchanting and expressive bouquet of wild raspberry, cranberry, herbs and leather with a slightly animalistic and earthy touch. The palate is light and elegant with a mouth-watering acidity combined with fruity flavours of red cherry, red currant, blueberry, herbs and mineral notes. We recommend serving the wine slightly chilled at 14-16 ° C, either simply on its own, or paired with light dishes of poultry or veal, perhaps with a light sauce and salad.

Bourgueil Graviers is sourced from beautiful terraces overlooking the Loire River outside of the village of Bourgeuil. The soil is typical for Loire and consists of rocky, alluvial gravels and well aerated and drained sand. It is a warm terroir where the grapes ripen early, resulting in wines with beautiful fruit flavours, elegance and finesse. The grapes are organically  with use of Biodynamic methods. Harvested and de-stemmed by hand, the wine is fermented with natural yeast in steel tanks and matured for 10 months in 2-4 years old French oak barrels.

Jo Pithon the owner of the house, established a small winery in Anjou in Loire in the late 1970s and dreamed of expanding the business to include a négociant company. A Négociant makes wine from grapes that are bought from other wine growers. In 2008, with great support from Jo Pithon’s family, the estate as it is know today was created by Jo Pithon, Isabelle Pithon, Joseph Paillé and Wendy Paillé. Most of the vineyards in Anjou were sold off, and instead they began collaborating with other winemakers around the Loire. They bought their grapes, fermented them and sold the wines under the Pithon-Paillé label. The project has been very successful and today, the Pithon-Paillé family produces pure and juicy terroir wines from six different appellations in the Loire. The focus is on the classic Loire grapes Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. Jo Pithon continues to produce wine from the 5 hectares he still owns including the single vineyard Le Coteau des Treilles.
