Pouilly-Fuissé La Réserve Climat Pouilly from the medieval castle Château Pouilly in southern Bourgogne in France, is made of 100 % Chardonnay grapes and has everything you can desire from a great white wine from Bourgogne. The wonderful experience begins with the beautiful bright golden colour and oily appearance. Take time to enjoy the expressive aromas of white flowers, yellow apples, acacia honey, vanilla stick and hazelnuts. The wine is full-bodied, with a sophisticated balance between weight and freshness. The palate presents complex flavours of yellow apple, honey melon, butter, nutmeg as well as mineral notes. The texture is silky and creamy, balanced with a fresh acidity and the finish is impressively long. Enjoy this wine slightly chilled at 9-12 ° C with fatty fish for instance salmon and savoury seafood dishes with lots of cream and butter. The grapes for La Réserve Climat Pouilly come from only 2,5 hectares of the best and oldest plots around the castle. The vines are 50-70 years old and grow in calcareous soils of clay and limestone, which give the wine the mineral notes the area is so renowned for. From the 2020 vintage, these specific, unique plots will be classified as Premier Cru Pouilly Fuissé and officially and honorably be named Climat Pouilly.
About 60 % of the wine ferments and matures in small, French oak barrels for 12 months, where the wine rests on the yeast deposit, called lees. The barrels are a mix of new and old barrels where 20 % of the oak barrels are new. The maturation in oak barrels brings delicate oak flavours of for instance vanilla, toast and nuts. Château Pouilly only make two wines, Cuvée 1551 and La Réserve Climat Pouilly, where Cuvée 1551 is a little lighter and fresher compared with La Réserve Climat Pouilly, which is more rounded and concentrated and has more pronounced oak flavours.
Pouilly-Fuissé is one of the oldest and most well-known wine areas in southern Bourgogne and has existed since Roman times. It is renowned for its great white wines made from the noble grape variety Chardonnay. The medieval castle Château de Pouilly was built in the 15th century and is one of the oldest properties in the Pouilly-Fuissé area. The very first wine was produced in 1551. The family Canal de Comet has been the owner of the estate for 7 generations since the beginning of the 18th century. Today the château is managed exclusively by women with the mother and daughters at the helm. The vineyards utilize products approved for organic farming exclusively and the grapes are carefully harvested by hand.
